Should I try dermaplaning?
Most people are good candidates for dermaplaning and the results are that hydrated, plump, “glazed donut” look you see Hollywood A-listers with, which is why dermaplaning has become a popular monthly treatment.
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a gentle, non-invasive physical exfoliation of the skin that uses a surgical blade to gently remove the outermost layer of the skin as well as the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). By lifting this upper layer of dead dry cells, the skin can easily receive targeted ingredients that improve your overall skin health and its hydration.
How does dermaplaning work?
Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation of the skin. Physical and chemical exfoliation are both important for skin health. Physical exfoliation is performed using a scrub, tool (like Dermaplaning) or device to manually remove dead skin cells, while chemical exfoliation uses alpha or beta hydroxy acids to loosen the glue between dead and healthy skin cells to increase cell turnover.
Our cell turnover rates begin to slow down as we age, going from approximately 14 - 20 days in our teens to over 60 days in our 60s and beyond. This is one reason why aging skin looks dry and dull as compared to the youthful glow of teens and young adults.
What are the results of dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning results in radiant, smooth, baby soft, hair free skin. Dermaplaning can be combined with and enhance the outcome of many other treatments like facials, microneedling, microchanneling, enzymes or chemical peels.
Most people are good candidates for Dermaplaning, except those who have acne prone skin, a compromised skin barrier, or a bleeding disorder.
